The importance of searching the Landfill for victims of crime

The importance of searching the Winnipeg land for murdered indigenous women has generated some controversy in recent times. It has been the Manitoba government against Indigenous groups, families, friends, and supporters. In the midst of a provincial election, the topic has become a hot button issue in political debates, with one political party vowing to search the landfill and the other vowing not to. We are at an impasse. But is there something we are forgetting in this divisive debate? Have we considered the real value of a life—the pain and suffering of a mother, father, or siblings? Murderers have been granted lighter sentences if they reveal the location of a murder victim, with the agreement of the victim's family, just so that they have the opportunity to put their loved ones to rest.  For all of those who feel that such an exercise would be too costly or dangerous, take a moment to think of the families and the victims. The least we can do for them is to provide closure. Ask yourselves if you would be comfortable knowing your loved one's body parts are scattered in a garbage dump and no one seems to care.

A seemingly angry Meghan McCain returns to The View

The often contentious host on the view, Meghan McCain has returned from maternity leave and as one would expect, the fireworks have re-ignited. Meghan McCain appears as an angry person which is quite unusual for a new mother. New mothers are usually gushing about their new born and often appear, In public at least, to be happy, from my experience. However, I was shocked when I tuned into the view to be greeted with an almost unrecognizable Meghan and an unhappy looking host who seemed to fly into a rage for no reason at all. Of course Meghan McCain has not been known to play nice with her co-hosts in the past. Disagreements become confrontational and I often tune out and had quit looking at The View for awhile. However, I started to watch The View again during the time Meghan was on maternity leave and found the experience a lot more pleasant. I wonder, however,as a mother myself, whether Meghan may be having her own difficulties. We do know that post partum depression is real and I encourage all new mothers to be aware of the potential and seek help. In this era of Covid-19 and political unrest, I would rather look at a View that is respectful of others, pleasant, friendly and filled with good conversation, otherwise I will move on.

Hospitalized Rudy Giuliani still fighting to overturn election results

Image credit: Wikimedia Commons (ByScott Adam Webb)

He may be hospitalized with symptoms of COVID-19 but Donald Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, is still working to make a case against the presidential election results. According to reports, he will be taking part in a virtual hearing with Georgia lawmakers in an effort to reverse the election loss.

Rudy Giuliani former mayor of New York and current lawyer for President Donald Trump  tested positive for COVID-19 a few days ago. The announcement was made by Donald Trump in a tweet on Sunday. In his tweet, Trump described Giuliani as “the greatest mayor in the history of New York who has been working tirelessly to expose the most corrupt election (by far!) in the history of the USA”.

Rudy Giuliani has indeed been working hard to make the case  that his boss DonaldTrump won the elections and not Biden. Giuliani has appeared maskless at several press conferences and appearances on behalf of defending theTrump cause. He is just the latest Trump official to become infected with the virus during the pandemic. Others who tested positive for the virus within the White house include Kayleigh McEany, white house press secretary, Mark Meadows, chief of staff and senior adviser, Hope Hicks.

There is concern for Rudy Giuliani due to the fact that he is 76 years old. His son who is also a White House staffer had also tested positive for the virus a couple weeks ago. So far there has been no word about how Giuliani is doing in hospital.

Hiding black faces of the Winter Olympics at Peyong Chang

Hiding black faces at PeyonChang. Image [Sportguru Wikimedia Commons]

Is it me or is there a deliberate attempt to block out and hide black athletes taking part in the Winter Olympics? I know there are some black athletes participating but you never see them on camera. For decades now, the Winter Olympics has been seen very few black athletes. For those who make it to the game they are barely seen on camera as if they don't exist even when they are part of a team. Is this deliberate or just an innocent omission?

CBC Cameramen cropping out black athletes?

I was just watching the 4-man bobsled competition at #peyongChang2018. Of course it is tough to tell who is on the team but I was alarmed to see the effort the cameraman  from CBC Canada went to in order to cut out the black faces on the Canadian bobsled team during a #CBC interview. The picture of the white bobsledder being interviewed was so radically cropped just to exclude the other members of the team who were black. Eventually toward the end of the interview, the cameraman included the rest of the team briefly. I wonder if someone noticed the omission and told him to.

A boring Part 1 The Voice Finale 2017

As I watched The Voice Part 1 Finale on Monday night, I struggled to stay awake. I was all ready for a mind blowing entertaining experience but was terribly disappointed. Of course Brooke Simpson was strong as usual. Perhaps is the pressure associated with a finale but these acts performances led me to ask "where is the voice?"

Flawed Finale performances

Listening to the performances by the final four Voice contestants, I marvel at how they go there and my heart ached for those voices that were silenced far too early in the competition. The finale would have been much more interesting had there been more diverse voices in the finale. Since all my favorites like Davon Fleming, Shi’Ann Jones and Noah Mac. With eliminations of powerful voices and performances there is not much left to cheer on The Voice.

The lucky finalists are mostly country singers which makes one think that the only ones who vote are country fans which makes for a finale that does not appeal to other music genre lovers. Jennifer Hudson in her first Voice is left with no contestants in the finale. The two hour finale of the voice airs tonight.

The Final Four

 Addison Agen (Team Adam)

Doug Jones says Trump's sexual misconduct allegations in the past and he should not resign

The newly elected democratic senator Doug Jones who won a shocking victory over Republican Roy Moore said he doesn't think Donald Trump should resign as a result of Sexual misconduct allegations. While other democrats have called on Trump to resign in light of the allegations, Jones is taking a different stance.

Doug Jones speaking on a Sunday morning show says he doesn't think that the President should resign due to the sexual misconduct allegations. He says it is time to get on with real issues facing people in the country today. Jones appear to suggest that since those allegations were made before the election and Donald Trump was elected, they are no longer significant. He echoed the White House position when Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters that the people elected Trump decisively which answered all those allegations.

Donald Trump had been accused by multiple women of sexual assault before his election. These allegations have resurfaced with the rise of the #metoo movement. Trump himself has been caught on tape outlining his strategies for assaulting women.
