Perhaps we have never really been safe even though many of us in different parts of the world feel immune from attacks. The Australian hostage crisis ended when police stormed the cafe, leaving 2 dead after a sixteen hour stand off. The dead have not yet been identified but this and other recent attacks leaves many of us asking the question "Whose next"
Canada, known for years as a peacmaer in global conflicts, saw that image shattered with the recent killings of soldiers on Canadian land, who were not involved in conflict at the time of the killings. Now Australia, and of in all places, a coffee shop, was exposed to a "too close for comfort moment" when patrons and staff were held captive for 16 hours.

While we must still carry on with our day to day activities and not allow these acts to immobilize us, we have to all start asking ourselves the serious questions. What is the state of the world today and why? Are our elected leaders doing the right things to keep us safe from such future attacks or could they be doing more? Do we need a different , more concilatory strategy or a harsher one? Will sudden and unexpected attacks of military personnel and ordinary citizens on our own soil become a way of life? +Politics +Peace +Hostage +Australian +Conflict +Commentary +
