Female Beach Volleyball and selling sex in the Olympic Games

semi naked beach volleyball

It is appalling that in 2016, the Olympics still see it fit to demean women by having them appear half naked on the volleyball courts. It seems that  having half naked women beach volleyball players jump around, crawl in the sand and shake their sometime flabby behinds is the only way to get an audience. On the other hand I much prefer to watch the men's volleyball players who are appropriately dressed from top to bottom and they still look sexy. It is about time that women  come to grips with the fact that baring their breasts and bottoms does not make them sexy it makes them look cheap.

The other night while watching the Olympics, a women's beach volleyball game came on and before I could turn it off I caught a glimpse of  the two opposing teams - one wearing string bikinis and the other wearing shorts and full tops. I saw half naked women spreading their legs as they crawled around in the sand. I thought I was watching mud wrestling. One team chose to promote sexism, the other chose not to. I say "chose" because he Olympics in its wisdom, have "allowed" women to wear shorts instead of bikinis. Really? And even if the Olympics determined that women should and must be eye candy while men cover up, why are the women accepting this.

Until women decide that they will not be relegated to rolling around in the dirt and sand semi naked in order to get viewers, the struggle for equal pay and opportunities will continue at a snail's pace. Cudos to those women volleyball teams that opt for more appropriate volleyball wear..

No, it's disgusting to limit women's freedom to be sexy and attractive.
